The Fish Wife

The newly wedded fish wife, longed for a more examined life, she just always wanted to live much deeper. Her young and handsome fish groom, wouldn’t give her growing room, he wanted nothing more than to simply keep her.

So she swam in the shallows, looking down at the depths, wondering what glistening treasures lay below them. Until she decided to swim down, with her glum little frown, and invited her new fish groom to come join her.

“I’m afraid of the depths, let’s just stay here instead!” he wept, as he looked around at his familiar fish kingdom.

“But there’s more sea to see, why don’t you swim down with me? Why don’t we make the most of our fish freedom?”

But the fish groom stayed still, of his own right free will, and the fish wife swam down into a whirlpool. The whirlpool spun her around, down to the depths most unfound, where treasures and seascapes began unfolding.

She had expanded her sight, and shed her chiffon gown of white, and became bolder and wiser than before here. She wore a new gown of red, and new ideas filled her head, and she swam deeper and then higher, without fear.

She glowed more than before, as she’d now touched the sea floor, and in her red gown she shone bright in the water. A handsome heron watched her swim, and on a whimsical whim, he flew right down and reached out, and then he caught her.

She lay stunned in his beak, feeling tired and weak, but then her strength caught up and she angrily bit him. The heron landed immediately, and put the fish wife down to see, that this creature that had bit him, was magnificent!

“You may be another sort, and I never really thought, that I could learn anything new from a small fish wife!”

The fish looked up at the handsome heron, and they fell deeply without saying, and they embarked on a new shared life, on the water.
